World of Zoo

World of Zoo was the first game I worked on at Blue Fang, initially in a QA role, but later as a designer. I started out designing the achievements for the game, but when the in-game economy became achievement-based, suddenly my role increased significantly. I was also responsible for creating species in our animal editor, and creating and naming Star Animals to unlock for exhibits.

Creating the star animals involved making them in the animal editor, naming them, and writing their back story. There are 11 star animals per animal family, for a total of 121.

While originally just a side bonus, the game's achievements became the foundation of the game's entire progression and token-based economy.

Each animal family has a number of species available. Purchasing a species unlocks more parts in the animal editor. There are 95 different species in the game, distributed across the 11 animal families.
